Kyoko turned around, listening as hard as she could to try and hear Dakia. He wasn't by the river. He wasn't in the camp site. She couldn't hear him at all. "Dakai, this isn't funny. Where are you?"
Dakai was floating right above her, using a black cloud of chaos to keep his body in the air. He looked as though he was simply sitting, trying to ignore everything else. Kyoko was starting to cry. It was the first time in her life that she actually felt helpless, and she hated it. She started crying, and Dakai sighed and slowly dropped down to the ground. Kyoko slowly lifted her head and looked to where she heard the noise. "Dakai?"
Dakai nodded then remembered that she couldn't see. "Yeah. Wha-"
His question was cut off, because Kyoko got up and slapped his face hard. "Don't do that to me again! I thought you were dead or that you took off without me! I don't know this area very well, and I didn't know what I was going to do." She whimpered trying to hold back the tears.
Dakai sighed and shook his head. "I'm not used to traveling with someone else. I'm sorry okay?" the Chao said as he rubbed the cheek that Kyoko slapped. She looked to him and sighed. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have-"
Dakai put up a finger to her lips. "It's okay. I've had much worse, so don't say anything on it. I just wasn't expecting it."
Kyoko nodded and hugged Dakai softly, making him stiffen up. His expression became very fierce, but he pushed it away. "Okay princess, I still have to fillet and cook these fish."
The Dari backed off and nodded. "Sorry. Go ahead. Do what you have to, Dakai." Dakai nodded and created a cloud of chaos to hold the fish up in front of himself. He slowly traced each one with the tip of his index finger.
Moments later, a black spark flashed, instantly going from one end of the fish to the other. The actually meat of the fish slowly slid away from the rest of the fish which was slowly fading into nothingness.
As soon as he was done, Dakai pulled out a camper's skillet and started cooking a few fish under the fire that Kyoko had made while Dakai was messing with the fish. It had just gotten up when he pulled out the skillet.
When he had finished with the first few fish, Dakai gave them to Kyoko, letting her eat first. After a few more minutes, Dakai had the rest of the fish cooked and on his plate. The two of them slowly ate, not knowing what to say to each other.
After they were finished eating, Dakai made the plates break then reassembled them instantly, making them as clean as before they ate. Kyoko twitched at the noise, not knowing what to think of it. Dakai laughed softly and shook his head. "That's how I clean. I hate spending lots of time on things that I can do quickly."
Kyoko nodded and stretched softly, stifling a yawn. "So where do we sleep?" she asked, not prepared to actually camp in the wilderness. Dakai rolled his eyes and pulled a two piece tent and set it up for Kyoko. She looked to him and raised an eyebrow. "And where are you going to sleep?"
Dakai shrugged and set next to the fire. "I'll probably make something to sleep in with my chaos. Don't worry about me. Just sleep and take it down when you wake up." Kyoko nodded and walked into the tent. It wasn't big, but it worked. Dakia had even left a pillow and blanket in there for her to sleep with. She smiled and pulled up mounds of earth to block off the entrance to the tent. With that extra security in place, Kyoko closed her eyes and slowly went to sleep.
Outside Dakai simply stayed next to the fire. After an hour, it started to rain. Dakai quickly formed an umbrella of chaos, but that turned the rain into balls of fire, so Dakai quickly stopped it, rolling to get the fire on his clothes put out. "Great." He sighed and walked under a tree. It didn't help much, but he was able to get to sleep after a few hours.
In the morning, Kyoko listened to the wind to hear where Dakai was. When it hit him, it sounded a bit muffled as though his clothes were soaked. She walked over and touched his shoulder feeling his wet cloak. "Oh..." she whispered, trying not to wake up the sleeping Chao.
The young Earth Dari walked back to the tent and folded it up. She then looked back to Dakai and sighed. "Why? He's such an idiot. Why didn't he just make me use my Earth magic to make something to sleep in and take the tent for himself?"
Suddenly, Kyoko was pulled down to the ground. "He knew that my kind wouldn't attack when a Chao was outside watching in the night."
Kyoko screamed out, hoping that Dakai would wake up and save her. He didn't even move. The creature which looked like it was part of the forest. Kyoko finally realized what was attacking her. "Are you a blender?" she asked not knowing exactly what it looked like. She could only feel it's rock hard grip on her.
The creature smiled maliciously and pulled Kyoko closer. "Oh yes, m'dear. A blender. I watched you eat last night, and you didn't realize a thing. You're lucky that your friend noticed me, or he might not have kept guard over you. Now that he's sleeping and you're not, I get to...Why's it so dark?" The entire area was consumed by a cloud of darkness, making it impossible to see anything except for the blender.
Dakai stretched and yawned as he slowly stood up. "Great. There's another Chao. Lets go. Oh...You let it catch you? Man, you're annoying." He walked to the blender and kicked it off of Kyoko, then pulled her up. "I know that it's silent, but you should have at least heard the wind against it. Blenders blend completely with their surroundings until they attack. I saw him when I handed you your fish. It took three seconds to form back to the ground when you moved it ever so slightly. It doesn't just blend with the looks. A blender will also blend in with the sounds and smells."
Kyoko nodded and brushed herself off as Dakai packed up, seeing through the chaos. Kyoko trapped the blender in a cage of dirt then walked next to Dakai. "What else is there out there?"
Dakai shrugged and started to continue on their trek. "Just the normal creatures. Nothing really huge or anything. They're just annoying." Kyoko walked right in front of Dakai and looked to him. "Thank you for helping me."
Dakai sighed and shook his head. "Don't worry about it. Just pay more attention to things that aren't me. Being quieter-"
Kyoko cut Dakai off by gently kissing his lips. He didn't push her away like she thought he would. He simply stiffened like before. When she pulled away, Kyoko blushed softly and turned away. "Thank you for waiting to kill me."
Dakai shook his head again and sighed. "Yeah...about that. You're not worth me killing. You don't have to follow me around. You can go home if you want."
Kyoko shook her head and smiled. "I'll stay for now. I might learn a thing or two that I didn't know. Besides, I don't want to risk getting attacked by another blender."
With that, they both walked off. After another day of walking, they finally reached the town of Eviar. It was a small town that had some inns and pubs, but there wasn't anything really special about it other than it had a Chao guild that Dakai was going to check up on in the morning.
For the moment, the two of them were tired, so they went to an inn and each had their own room. "Night, Dakai," Kyoko said as she opened her door.
"You too," Dakai responded as he went into his own room to sleep.

Nice to see there's a hole in Kyoko's spunkiness, too. Seeing that there's a limit to her self-assurance makes her more real as well.
Dakai's use -- and mishap with -- his chaos magic still fascinate me...I'm trying to figure out why the different applications worked the way they did.
You're improving with the explanations; the blender was another one of those things that could have been just a name, but you explained it quickly enough that it was interesting instead of confusing.

Was this the comic project that the two of you were going to collaborate on? I seem to remember Edge being mentioned...
